I have contrived a method with which, from photographs of rusteaten bronze sculptures or eroded carvings, I can reverse the process of obliteration and bring back almost all vanished details, ornaments and inscriptions.

There is a reproduction of a very early Etruscan mask hammered out of a bronze sheet, that was obliterated in every detail, yet I undertook to re-establish its former shape and brought back half of it, leaving the other half unchanged, just to demonstrate that where previously there had not been any lines, I had been able to see and revive them. A naive person may describe my ability to see things that have chemically vanished as a particular genius. However, I think that EVERYTHING that the human mind can dream of, can be done. The term genius, to me, is not a compliment, but a mere classification of a type of mind that makes peffect whatever it concentrates on. The chief ingredient of that genius is... PATIENCE. And with patience, I can return to life things archeological.
