He is the Legend-teller, green complexioned and immortal, but only as long as there are new and newer stories founded on new heroic deeds. Bybyots and the frog Rege-Rege, the Mythic Nurse of the ancient Poles, are constant companions. He is an old man but very youthful. He has no eyebrows with which to scowl or get angry, yet he never laughs.

He was, like all the other characters in the tragedy Rege! Rege!, invented by me. I invented all the events of this legend in order that Bybyots may have good reason not to die for lack of stories to tell.
