Sadakachi Hartmann - 1925

He was a ballet dancer, professional or not I never learned. For years I had heard of him; then one day when I was living in Hollywood, he knocked on the door and introduced himself. It was from him that I learned of his former association with ballet, for I knew him as a poet and writer, emulating Albert Hubbard's Little Journeys to the Homes of Great Men. He was not a thinker, but a rehasher of other writer's opinions, mostly a libertine and floater. Being neither Japanese nor German in upbringing, he had none of his parents' backgrounds.

His extraordinarily narrow face and lack of jaw mark him as the tail-end of a biologically spent strain of a family. He is the absolute opposite to my type of build. I, being of round face, am never hesitant in my choices, persistent to the point of obsession, sexually inexhaustive, and never alter my views on vital things once they are started.

I am convinced that individuals with round or square faces are endowed with extraordinary vitality, from which springs all CREATIVITY. Narrow faces indicate speculative, calculative skills. They are noncreative, but make good lawyers or interior decorators. They make the worst possible lovers as they are NEVER overcome by Passion.
